What happens that results in the blackscreen failure?

Fails to consistently wake up from Sleep.  The graphics output for the login screen seems to randomly switch from the designated primary, HP 2335 monitor,  to the 2ndary display, the HP ZR30w.

When this happens the ZR30w system status light then winks continuously in a blue color indicating that the resolution is out of range.  The minimum resolution for the ZR30w is 800x600.

Via the power buttons on the laptop, or the port replicator, or Fn-F4 I put the computer back to sleep and then wake it again.  After the 2nd, 3rd or 4th attempt it usually works by switching the login screen back to the HP 2335 monitor.

When I successfully login both monitors work but previously open windows are all VGA sized.

It looks like there are two issues in that it randomly switches the display for the login in and that it also changes the resolution down to VGA when it tries to use the ZR30w for the login.
